So I learn that I’m building a new computer, it’s going to have glowing lights and some tape. It’ll be Mint. Which means that I can only update the story of that long apvpbpbpvpvp on sundays. Makes sense to me guys.

Also I found 200 comics in 12 hours. All I can say is tee hee!

Do you know what makes Tuesday a special day of the week? If you don’t know the answer, listen to more music. You’ll figure it out eventually.

This will make for a weird music post, but it’s hard to separate the mixture of things I’ve been seeing over the last week:

The New Pornographers first single My Rights Versus Yours off the so-close-to-out-it-hurts album “Challengers” is a great sign of what’s to come.

Along the same lines, the new Lauryn Hill track Lose Myself shows some promise. I just wish that booming production would just back off and let her take center stage, because she’s still sounding great. This track SCREAMS remix. Well, what can you expect for something off an animated feature soundtrack?

Actually, sometimes you can expect quite a bit: Yoko Kanno is my favorite anime soundtrack composer, and the soundtrack she did for the Cowboy Bebop was fantastic. Here is some footage of the The Seatbelts performing it live which absolutely burns through this stuff. Wow. Yoko’s enthusiasm quickly overcomes the “wtf” factor of that amazing red coat even without the music.

Usually, I hate it when sappy TV shows try to initiate some kind of fake hugfest around personal tragedies and disabilities, but Brian Gaynor blows away anything a scheming TV producer could dream up with this great dance number. I think it’s fantastic how he transforms his limited range of motion into a great personal style. Bravo!

This video for Subtle by the Norwegian/Japanese animation group SSSR is pretty fantastic.

Neutral Milk Hotel’s “In An Aeroplane Over The Sea” is probably my favorite album of all time. This photo montage of Anne Frank set to it is particularly powerful (warning: there’s nothing horrifically graphic but there are a few holocaust pictures included).  Like the music, the effect is overall manically positive despite all odds.

The world is a weird place. People just make it that much weirder. Examples:

Salvador Dali makes an amazing appearance on the tv show “What’s My Line?” I myself have a tendency to ponder simple questions on a far more detailed level than anyone expects me to. Confronting me with “how’s it going” frequently launches life retrospectives, quack self-psychology, and current events rumination. For this reason I found the serious honesty of an individual in a similar predicament forced to answer “yes” or “no” to be wonderfully, endearingly absurd. I’ve been mailing some folks from college that I haven’t spoken to for years, and I have to restrain myself from going into insane detail in reaction to simple smalltalk.

Kristan Horton’s Dr. Strangelove Dr. Strangelove project “pulls the objects away from real life at the same time as it pulls the film away from the screen.” Fantastic.

There is a movement in Hong Kong to label the Bible adult material. I would love to have this article shown to each and every bible-thumping censor.

Wood chips are disciminatory! This is an eye-opener, and part of me empathizes, but surely people can see that the end result of this kind of thinking is flattening the earth and covering it with a uniform surface? Harrison Bergeron for everyone! RIP Kurt Vonnegut.

A 10 month old baby in my hood is packin’ a FOIP gun permit card. Between this and the cobra thing I am going to give babies a wide berth for a while.

So…. yeah.

Nothing’s really making me laugh today. This week seems particularly lite on amusing strangeness, which is what we usually try to cover around here. So here are some oddities to tide you over until I feel less serious.

Fear the might gravity wave! I’ve seen clouds do the weirdest contortions during drives over the flatter parts of the midwest. The first time I saw a dust-devil funnel touch down in front of my car I was amazed that everyone just drove right through it… I was ready to lie down in a ditch and find religion.

The Nice Guy Paradox. I can attest that following the “nice guy” approach with the ladies guarantees you lame-duck, also ran status. Tactically is the weakest of sauces. Now that we’ve all got PHDs in what doesn’t work, somebody give us a plan B that works short of becoming some kind of megalomaniac Marlboro Man.

Eye smiling vs. Mouth smiling. I KNEW there had to be a good reason behind the Korean/Japanese emoticons that I can’t figure out worth a damn. I can’t think that there might be more to it, though. For example, in Japan you read from right to left rather than from left to right… so an english speaking native might look at this Hokusai painting and focus on the wave first, whereas the Japanese would more likely spot mount Fuji first. The feel of the painting changes dramatically as a result.

Yeah, yesterday sucked. Slomo vids? Pleaaaaase! I tried. At least the hissy fits over at digg about the posting of the HD DVD drm code were amusing. If you’re a giant geek like me, that is.

Anyhow, today stands accused of grand awesomeness, and the evidence is compelling:

Exhibit #1: monsters sketches by children are fleshed out by adult children.

Exhibit #2: optical illusions are fun. I had previously seen some fun ones that appeared to move but were static, but nothing like a color change in motion.

Exhibit #2: Dinosaur comics has produced terror that is truly ultimate.

Exhibit #3: Comrade Winnie the Pooh is in fully effect. The Soviet infiltration of hollywood is now complete: alert McCarthy!

How did this change from the craptacular come about? More Gemberling, that’s how! Seriously folks, this is the best/cheesiest thing since Heat Vision and Jack… and for Dorks in the know that’s some of the highest praise possible. Atreyu!!!!!!!!!!

If that’s not enough to waste all of your free time, I envy you. I also hate you with the hate of a thousand suns, if suns hated things. Yet, I will still post more inanity.
